E LEARNING - COMPREHENSIVE WORKPLACE FIRST AID
Unit Standards 6401, 6402( and 6400 (Approx 4 hours online plus 8 hours practical in class learning).
This is the recommended course for those that want to know more, work outdoors, or in remote areas, or high-risk industries, or have the adventurer gene living life on the edge in our beautiful (but extreme) wilderness. The course covers:
Basic Life Support (US 6402)*
- The basics of keeping someone alive in a life-threatening situation. (managing a collapsed person, CPR, use of an A.E.D, and managing Choking).
Provide First Aid (US 6401)
- Recognising and managing common illnesses (Asthma, Diabetic Emergency, Chest Pains, Seizure, and Stroke)
- Recognising and managing common injuries (severe bleeding and shock, thermal burns, simple fractures, soft tissues injuries, and poisoning).
Managing First Aid in an Emergency Situation (US 6400)
- Managing complicated wounds and injuries (including amputations, embedded objects, internal bleeding and crush injuries, chest wounds, chemical and electrical burns, open fractures)
- Recognising and managing anaphylaxis and heat illnesses (hypo and hyperthermia) - recognising and managing head and spinal injuries.
E LEARNING - FIRST AID AT WORK
Unit Standards 6401 and 6402 (Approx 4 hours online plus 4 hours practical in class learning).
Complete the theory online then come to the in-person practical session. This is the recommended course for those wanting a basic first aid course either to take care of those they do life with, work in low-risk environments, or want to feel prepared to manage a first aid emergency. Topics covered:

E LEARNING - REFRESHER
Refreshing Certificate Covering Unit Standards 6401 & 6402. (Approx 6 hours online plus 2.5 hours practical in class learning).
The practical must be completed within one month of the online course.
This course is for those with a current first aid certificate that will expire soon. We catch you up with any changes in first aid, remind you of the knowledge and skills you already have, and check your technique in scenario-based first aid experiences. You can renew your current certificate with City First Aid, regardless of the previous provider. Please provide evidence of your current first aid certificate prior to the course by uploading it when you book, emailing it to info@cityfirstaid.co.nz or bringing it to class.
*To complete the practice and assessment for the CPR component of these courses students need to be physically able to get down to floor level, kneel beside the manikin and get up again.less
