This is the recommended course for those wanting a basic first aid course either to take care of those they do life with, work in low-risk environments, or want to feel prepared to manage a first aid emergency.
Topics covered:
Basic Life Support (Unit Standard 6402)*
The basics of keeping someone alive in a life-threatening situation. (managing a collapsed person, CPR, use of an A.E.D, and managing Choking)
Provide First Aid (Unit Standard 6401):
Recognising and managing common illnesses (Asthma, Diabetic Emergency, Chest Pains, Seizure, and Stroke)
Recognising and managing common injuries (severe bleeding and shock, thermal burns, simple fractures, soft tissues injuries, and poisoning)
*To complete the practice and assessment for the CPR component of this course students need to be physically able to get down to floor level, kneel beside the manikin and get up again.less
