This 3-day Basic Emergency Care course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to deliver immediate advanced first aid assistance in any situation.
Covers NZQA unit standard 29321 (level 3, 14 credits)
This course is best suited for those working in high-risk industries, isolated environments or in recreational industries.
The Basic Emergency Care course is 3 days (approx. 8 hours pre-reading at home and two days practical in class)
Course times for both days in class are 8.30 am - 5.00 pm
With a pre-requisite of Comprehensive Workplace First Aid (Unit Standards 6402, 6401 and 6400) or respective refresher certificate and a completed pre-course assignment.
This in-depth course and scenario-based activities will give you the knowledge and skills to:
- Provide advanced life support, including; CPR, how to use an AED, how to use an open airway (Guedell) and how to use oxygen.
- Thorough patient assessment, monitoring and documentation of patient information
- Mass casualty assessment (triage)
- Familiarity with emergency care equipment for moving and extricating patients safely for transportation
- Maintaining rescuer well-being and support
- The opportunity to discuss special equipment and conditions specific to your workplace
Upon successful completion of the course, a Basic Emergency Care certificate will be valid for 2 years.
ALL students must be physically capable of kneeling on and getting up from the floor to use the manikins.
