New Zealand First Aid Certificate
Unit Standards: 6402 (v9), 6401 (v7) and 6400 (v8)
Time Commitment: 12 hours in-class practical
Recommended for those who work outdoors, in remote or high-risk areas, or enjoy adventurous activities.
Topics Covered:
- Provide Basic Life Support (US 6402 v9): Cardiac arrest (including CPR & AED use), unconsciousness, choking, severe bleeding (including the use of a tourniquet) and shock.
- Provide First Aid (US 6401 v7): Recognising and managing common illnesses and injuries.
- Managing First Aid in Emergency Situations (US 6400 v8): Managing complex injuries and medical conditions
Please note: As Foundation First Aid is a unit standard course, we require each learner’s NSN (National Student Number) to report their credits to their personal NZQA record. Please forward this request to all participants.
You can find your NSN by calling NZQA on 0800 697 296 or by using the NZQA ChatBot on the NZQA website. You will need to bring your NSN to class to enter it into the digital roll.
Course Requirements
This course, including all written, verbal, and practical assessments, is conducted in English. CPR assessments involve kneeling beside a manikin.
